                  Cleanest School in Telangana State

Swachh Vidhyalaya Puraskar to Primary School, Kashireddyguda

(Best in Telangana State, 2017)

Picture in 2014, a leaky Primary School building in Kashireddyguda with not enough classrooms or toilets. Children coming to school without footwear, sitting on floor, sometimes outside the classrooms. Garbage strewn around. No greenery. Get the picture. Hardly something to cheer about. Today, it has won the Swachh Vidhyalaya Puraskar. How was that made possible?  Mr Praveen Agarwal and Mr Shankar Dyaga of Pragathi Welfare Society team set about addressing the lacunae systematically.

The building was repaired and painted; additional classrooms were built; benches were provided; toilets were constructed; saplings were planted; schoolchildren were provided sandals, and were taught about hygiene such as washing their hands before meals and after going to toilet; supplementary classes were held; visits were arranged for various dignitaries to come and inspire the children to study well, keep their surroundings clean, and aim higher. A Reverse Osmosis water plant was installed outside the school for the community. Clean drinking water was provided to the students. Reject water from the plant was used to provide water in the toilets, and to irrigate the plants, which now started to thrive. In the last two years additional revenue from the water plant has been used to improve the building further.

We also built a multi-tap hand wash sink. Several concrete and stone benches were built for students to have lunch. An Anganwadi center was constructed in the premises of the school.

We are proud of having created a great model which provides an atmosphere conducive to learning for children 70 km away from Hyderabad city in a rural area, and of the accomplishments in a short span of time.

We hope many more will be inspired to create such model schools in their own villages.
