Burgula, a small village about 60 km from Hyderabad, was like any other village in India a decade ago. Today, Burgula has evolved into a Model Village thanks to the untiring efforts of Pragathi Welfare Society (PWS), who have striven hard to bring about overall development in the field of education, conducting vocational courses, sponsoring workshops, empowering women by providing them training and sewing machines, promoting hygiene, and door-to-door campaigning educating people to keep their surroundings clean, and emphasising the importance of educating their kids so that they could become better citizens.

Pragathi Welfare Society started the development work with a primary school, moving on to the High School. These now have proper classrooms fully equipped with benches, blackboards, study material, science laboratories, computer lab, library, and multipurpose hall. Children have been provided with bicycles and are motivated to attend school.  Students have been made computer literate, encouraged to participate in all co-curricular activities and competitions to explore their talents, and given books, dictionaries etc as prizes. The students are trained and encouraged to speak in English and Hindi in addition to the local language Telugu, so that they would be confident to face the challenges in their chosen field and easily fit into the mainstream. The students are exposed to the outside opportunities by sponsoring them for workshops, seminars etc. A database of the students is maintained and they are provided with job placement opportunities, too, which enable them to earn their livelihood.

A Water Purification Treatment Plant has been built near the high school on the lines of Reverse Osmosis technology to provide pure drinking water, and the residual water is used for irrigation purposes. Recently, on the Independence Day Aug 15, 2016, 210 toilets were inaugurated. The Burgula people have been educated about the benefits of using toilets.  The Primary Health Centres are fully functional providing the basic health facilities.

PWS has taken forward in the true sense the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan" and has proved that little drops of water go to make the mighty ocean, with the hard work and will power of the dedicated, devoted members and volunteers. "PRAGATHI," as the name suggests, has worked towards a revolutionary DEVELOPMENT of the village in all fields. Let's all Congratulate PWS for their good work and support them to take their noble cause forward.
