Village Head Testimonial (Sarpanch Testimonial)

March 15, 2017

Pragathi Welfare Society under the leadership of Dr Alok Agrawal, has been doing yeoman service to the people of Burgula panchayat. Mr Praveen Agarwal, Mr Shankar Yadav and team ensure that the projects are implemented on the ground.

Most importantly, the team works to change the attitudes of indigent villagers, mostly minorities and girls through increased awareness, motivation and persistent support. Pragathi team is always available to empower the local village government.  There is a ripple effect in the neighboring villages.

In education, Pragathi has provided best infrastructure in rural part of state and improved quality of education for close to thousand children. The students now have bicycles, sit in classrooms with desks and chairs, have access to computer lab, science lab, library, toilets and mini-auditorium. They have also appointed volunteer teachers and conduct  supplemental classes. Students, teachers and parents are motivated on a daily basis. Pragathi is now expanding its efforts and reaching out to the 100 schools in the Mandal to improve the education quality in the schools.

To empower women, they support the existing women self-help groups and assist in deployment of strategies for village transformation, skills improvement and income generation. Special emphasis is placed on education of girls. Pragathi has arranged trips to NIRD and SevaMela, helped about 250 women purchase sewing machines and trained them for self employment and constructed a Mahila Mandal building.

Pragathi has also galvanized the youth by training them in basic computer skills, providing personal computers to some to teach others, assisting them obtain driving license and find employment, and encouraging them to go for 45-90 days residential skill training, some with guaranteed jobs. A youth festival is held every October with participation from approximately 50-60 neighboring villages. They employ about 20 local youth familiar with village to participate in development of the village.

There is a big impact on healthcare through  two clean drinking water plants, litter free village project and aiding construction of several toilets.

The latest endeavour of Pragathi is to transform Kashireddyguda into a model village. They have drawn up the blueprint for it and got the villagers to sign a resolution affirming their participation in this. Also on the anvil is Pragathi Rural Development Centre, which will provide training, livelihood and employment to scores of people from the entire district.

A gradual transformation has ocurred because of committed and dedicated Pragathi  volunteers, who work tirelessly and none more so than the President himself, Dr Alok Agrawal.  On his trip from the US, he drives straight from the airport to Burgula, works in the village for few weeks and drives back to airport from Burgula, without meeting his family in Hyderabad. In the last two years, they have started involving other non-profit organizations and government agencies in their efforts. We are ever grateful to Pragathi for all that they are doing.
