We teamed up with Padala Charitable  Trust of Kakinada to conduct two  programs – Student Empowerment  Training (SET) Programme and  SWECHHA Programme – in all  high  schools of the 100 villages each  lasting  about 1½ to 2  hours.

Majority of the school children in rural government high schools do not know the purpose and importance of education. Moreover, they soon get discouraged due to their poor financial background. As a result, they do not realize their inherent capabilities and do not reach their full potential. Most of these problems are due to lack of awareness and lack of direction. But, if they are exposed to empowerment program even as early as 11 years old, they start to realize the importance of education in their lives, explore the avenues around them and become a lot more self-confident and self-reliant by the time they reach college. Thus they are able to realize their full potential. With the intent of empowering the students with simple but valuable techniques related to education, role models, human values, practical issues in life, inspiring stories and social responsibility, the  SET program was conducted. The idea was to  mentor the school children to strengthen them and make them realize their own potential.

SET Program is unique on account of the range of topics covered, which normally do not form part of any classroom curriculum. The content is delivered through interactive sessions in the form of audio/video, activities and short stories. The children participated enthusiastically and asked several questions. Some of the teachers who participated said they learned a few things and wanted the SET Program to be conducted regularly.
